It seems like just yesterday that Fanfare Eatery opened up in the Greenbriar Shopping Center. However this semi-fast food sports hangout has been open for a full year. On Saturday afternoon the restaurant celebrated their 1 year anniversary with some free food and raffle giveaways. On the same rainy day there was also a Nats Happy Hour baseball watch event and combining the two events led to a fun time out.

This new-ish tex-mex chain restaurant is located by the Fairfax Wal-Mart near the intersection of Rt 29 and Rt 50. This spot, that many people in the area don't even know exists, was formerly a Chili's but the new setup is looking good and the happy hour is absolutely awesome. Anywhere that serves FREE nachos (with ground beef and awesome queso) out of the trunk of a Cadillac is ok with me. They also have some specials on Margaritas, beer and martinis too! One of the best kept secrets in the Fairfax area is the Happy Hour at Joe's Crab Shack in Fair Lakes. The restaurant is hidden away in the back of the secondary shopping center and is known for it's expensive crab dinners. However, if you hang around at the bar for happy hour you are going to get some really great deals. And then on Tuesdays, it gets even better as Joe's throws one of the best specialty nights in all of Fairfax, and it runs til 9pm! Hurricanes, Seafood Appetizers, and beers, all for just 2 bucks. I joined a few friends at Joe's to try everything they have on their $2 "Two"sdays.

Every Thursday night at Buffalo Wing Factory is their popular all you can eat wings, bites and fingers special. Each Thursday evening the restaurant area is packed with teenagers spending their parents money. But while there may be a young crowd at times there is also a fairly large bar area with tons of beers on tap. I went down to the bar and tried to eat as many wings as I could. I may have been sick later, but hey, I "got my money's worth"...

Flame Kabob is a tiny little spot in the Greenbriar shopping center next to the annoying Starbucks with a drive-thru. The restaurant specializes in, shocker, kabobs. They have a daily special for $7 where you can try one of their smaller sized kabob dishes. I went down and grabbed my own to try it out. Steak, Beef or Chicken Kabob Special: $7.50 (after tax)

Jason's Deli is a deli located in the Fair Lakes shopping center of Fairfax. While they offer a variety of lunch options one of their most popular items is their great salad bar. I went down there for lunch to check it out. All You Can Eat Salad Bar: $8.50 (after tax)

Cantina D'Italia is an Italian Restaurant located in the Fair Lakes shopping center. It is sort of hidden and blends in with all the stores as I have lived in the area for years and had no idea this was even here. I finally made my first trip there after finding it after googling restaurants, and I decided to try one of their pizzas for lunch. Italian Pizza: $13 (after tax & tip, $10 for more basic pizzas)

Lebanese Kitchen is a fairly new carryout spot in the Greenbriar Shopping Center of Fairfax. They offer a variety of items including gyros, pizza, shawarma and kabobs among other things. I went down there to try out one of their gyros for lunch. Gyro & Chips: $8 (after tax)

Similian Thai is becoming one of the hottest Thai spots in all of Fairfax County. Located in Greenbriar Shopping Center, this tropical haunt features a great menu, which includes slightly lower prices during lunch hours. I stopped by to try a classic Thai meal, the beef kra pow. Tsunami Sushi is a small sushi restaurant located inconspicuously in the Fair Lakes shopping center next to Toys R' Us. I've never heard much about it but the place is well known in the area for their all you can eat lunch sushi buffet ($15 after tax). The setting is a little dark and divey (the patio is great though) and there are a lot of old regulars at the bar, but if you want some cheap food and drinks (or Fireball shots if you are going nuts) in Fair Lakes this is your spot. If you've ever been to the Delaware beaches (or nowadays the grocery store or any bar) you know about the awesomeness of Dogfish Head beer. We are lucky enough in this area to have 2 different Dogfish restaurants in our area and they serve nothing but delicious beer from Milton Delaware. In some crazy scheme to make a profit, this restaurant/bar actually serves good food as well. I went down to Greenbriar to check out the Fairfax location and grab a quick lunch.
